Medical Oxygen Plant set up to provide regular oxygen supply in RCF Hospital.
07.07.2021: A Medical Oxygen Plant has been installed in Rail Coach Factory in order to provide regular oxygen supply to patients admitted in Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, RCF. It has a capacity of 83 litres per minute ( 5 Nm3/Hr ) which can supply medical oxygen to about 20 patients round the clock.
The plant was today inaugurated by Smt. Neeta Gupta , President RCF Women’s Welfare Organisation . Sh Ravinder Gupta, General Manager, RCF , Senior Officers of RCF , Wembers of RCFWWO. Members of Staff Unions etc. were present on the occasion. The plant has been set up ata cost of Rs. 23/- lacs apx.
During April-May this year, the country was leftreeling under shortage of medical oxygen as COVID patients kept thronging the hospitals. RCF came forward to supply 1210 kg of liquid oxygen from its oxygen plant to Guru Nanak Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar . Supply of this liquid oxygen though had some effect on RCF’s coach production, but the supply proved to be helpful to deal with the emergency needs of Corona patients.
On this occasion, Sh Ravinder Gupta , General Manager, RCF praised Plant, Civil, Medical and Electrical Deptts for setting up this plant in a record short time. He announced a cash prize for these deptts. He further added that this Oxygen Plant shed has been made of Scrap material generated in RCF.
This plant is based on Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) technology wherein the compressed air which contains 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen passes through a filter for storage in air accommodator and subsequentlythrough tower for absorption of hydrocarbon molecules. This air then splits intotwo phases , with one phase containing93-95% pure oxygen and other phase containing Nitrogen to vent to atmosphere . The produced oxygen is stored in storage tank through a sterilizing filter for constant supply to hospital .
The plant has been installed by M/s. High Tech Gas and Equipments , Mandi Gobingarh, Punjab.
